i gotta say that the stuff about their clothes not being for big people was very real for me. i am a similar size and build and also age to the true geordie guy and holy fuck is it hard to find pants that fit. what i found was some line of pants specifically meant for hockey players with extra room in the thigh... but it’s very hard to find clothes that fit as a big guy who is in shape. all the clothes seem to be either for skinny people or obese people.

Gym shark has been selling an image to regular people like those bodies are obtainable naturally and quickly. When in fact the people that have those insane bodies are juiced to the gills and have been working for years and years to obtain a body like that. People that don’t know any better really think you can obtain a physique like those gym shark athletes naturally. The mans literally tricking people and selling a false imagine to regular people all around the world.

Im 6'2 230 pounds built like a powerlifter big wide back big chest and arms with a little gut and all the gym shark clothes do not fit right to short when I lift my arms you can see my belly and do not lay down on my back right plus really tight on chest and arm pits and loose at bottom so gymshark is 100% not made for anyone tall and big unless you are ripped.

At the end of the day, it's Gymshark. Who really cares? And why is everyone always talking about body image? People in general need to stop being lazy, set some goals, quit worrying about everyone else, and put in some damn work.

It is interesting to hear Ben talk about being a younger company lets them be more agile. The concept of agility used in this way usually is associated with IT and/or Product Development. This usually has to do with using technology that allows you to move faster as a company (the cloud would be one example) and respond to customer demands/requests quicker than competition. Without diving too deep into this, the idea is if a customer wants a change in the product (say tons of Snapchat users wanted them to add a certain feature) they can develop that much quicker than a technology company that has been around 20-30 years ago (general statement). Applying this idea of agility to "changing our brand" when what you sell is apparel isn't really the same type of agility. Sure, a company developed 30+ years ago might have a more hardened brand that people know and therefore it is harder to change that perception (think Levi Jeans) that is obviously true. But Gymshark being able to pivot their brand is not indicative of them doing anything special (aside from adding a photo of someone who is overweight to their IG 1% of the time) it has more to do with how young of a company they are without the household brand name recognition of a Levi or Skechers (you sense a reoccurring theme here of who I am and what I buy lol). If technical debt is what limits companies from developing products/features for their customers in software, then brand debt is what an apparel company has to fight to address a new market or buyer (which I am sure they are trying to do because yeah the fake natty apparel market isn't a huge one). Jumping on the social justice, positive body image, or whatever cause bandwagon to profit is not an inherent bad thing (disclaimer: I have not given it enough thought to say this very confidently), maybe it is a good thing if you care about those causes? Does the motivation matter? A deeper topic that isn't for now. Good breakdown Philion.
